6pm-3pm the following day? I don’t get it? Sheesh traffic is bad enough without this…
I was wondering if that was supposed to say 6pm to 3 am?

They need to let everyone during this time use the carpool lane. You can already use the car pool lane during most hours solo but they need to make an exemption during this time frame…. Someone should bring this up to help ease traffic. I bet all the side streets will be backed up especial the back way coming up balboa will be messed up too…. Smh I get it needs to be done but the my should do it little by little

Glad to see this…I face booked governor Brown awhile back about the potholes on the 14…Santa Clarita usually has such nice roads. ..I bragged about how nice it was to drive in sc…and how shocked I was about the terrible road conditions…very pleased we will be taken care of…!

It’s more fun than you know folks. This is for the widening of the Golden Valley Road bridge over the 14 freeway. It is also scheduled to be in effect until March 20…or longer if the contractor doesn’t get the work done in time.
Northbound traffic from the SFV will be directed onto the 5; access to the 14 will be blocked. Southbound traffic on the 14 will be dumped off at Sand Canyon, and will have the choice of going west to the 5 in Valencia, or getting in line to go south on Sierra Highway. And inching their way down to the 2 lane bottlenecks of Foothill Rd and San Fernando Rd.
If you want to see the details of the “planned” closures, go to:

Be sure to select 14 (the route #) and ALL, as well as the dates. You can only get seven days of closures at a time. It’s a PITA to read the closure schedule but you can figure it out.
The hours the closures will be in effect seem slightly different at this CalTrans site, but are still @ 8-12 hours each, taking place during the “least” traffic flow hours.
If you HAVE to travel in the direction (SB or NB) of the closure during that time, you’d better give yourself a lot of slack. Even if you live in Valencia. There’s gonna be a lot of extra street traffic going south through town, going west to the 5, and getting on the 5 from MM Parkway south.
Maybe once Golden Valley Rd is 6 lanes wide all the way to the McDonald’s, the property owners can finish building out those canyons south of Fair Oaks. And our Cross-Valley Connector will finally be complete.
The Golden Valley bridge widening does not start until April at the earliest.
You may be right; I may be crazy. They could be beautifying on and off ramps like they did at Sand Canyon. Or, if it’s the same contractor announced by the city for the bridge widening, they could be re-striping lanes, adding crash barriers and setting up scaffolding on the median and bridge abutments to start the bridge work in April.
I guess we’ll see.

CORRECTION: RE-reading the Caltrans closure chart, it appears that many of the lane closures are scheduled to be limited by Lane; in other words, it is possible that traffic will be permitted on the freeway but limited to one or two lanes open.
If I’m right about this, that should ease things quite a bit. But most of the ramps on & off the 14 will be fully closed as listed.
