What will our community look like 50 years from now? No one knows for sure but in 50 years, Santa Clarita residents of the future will have a glimpse of local life in 2011. On Thursday, August 25, 2011, the time capsule will be buried at the new Newhall library as part of the “topping out” ceremony, commemorating the completion of the library steel structure.
Community members are encouraged to submit their contributions to the time capsule by August 24, 2011. Submitted items should be small-sized, iconic items of interest that have historical significance or represent everyday life in Santa Clarita in 2011.
Each item must be placed inside a one gallon or smaller zippered plastic bag, accompanied with the name, address and telephone number of the person submitting the item. Pertinent details about the item should also be included with the item. Relevant 2011 time capsule items include books, music, photos, newspapers, magazines, toys, gadgets, signatures of groups of people and children on something of note.
To submit an item for the time capsule, please drop-off your entry at one of the 5 locations:
* Human Resources Office on the first floor of City Hall, located 23920 Valencia Blvd. (8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday)

The community is invited to attend the topping out event on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 10 a.m. at the new library construction site located on Spruce Street and 11th Street, in Old Town Newhall.
The City of Santa Clarita’s 30,000 square-foot library is currently under construction and is slated for completion in mid 2012. The two-story public building will be LEED-certified, include a children’s library, teen area, 74 public use computers, a fireplace reading room and community meeting areas.
