The Los Angeles County Coroner has identified the woman who was killed in a fatal crash in Agua Dulce early Wednesday morning.

The victim was identified as 23-year-old Monique Michelle Garcia of Castaic, said Lt. Elissa Fleak with the Coroner’s office.

Garcia was driving a 2005 silver Nissan Sentra northbound on Sierra Highway around 3:20 a.m., north of Davenport Road, when she traveled over the double yellow line into southbound lane and collided with a 2015 black Dodge Dart that was traveling southbound, said CHP Officer Josh Greengard.

The two vehicles collided head on; Garcia sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, Greengard said. The driver of the Dodge was transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the collision, the cause is still under investigation, Greengard said.

Both northbound and southbound lanes of Sierra Highway were closed for more than four hours, Greengard said.

  12. Dan OConnell says:

There are precious few traffic cops anywhere around Santa Clarita. I live in SC on a major week day road / weekend race track and asked a Sheriff’s deputy why they don’t troll for speeders. He said they are full aware of the problem but too many violators go to court and have their ticket removed. Given the court situation, he said that they lose money on tickets because so few are paid. That was his answer…I’m not sure I buy it and it is certainly not a good one. We need more patrols, especially during drinking hours.

  13. Sonny Teague says:
