Two California Highway Patrol officers suffered minor injuries Wednesday when their patrol vehicle was struck by another vehicle that lost control on the I-5 south just north of Balboa Boulevard.
The CHP patrol vehicle was stopped on the right shoulder of the I-5 at approximately 12:59 a.m. Wednesday about 10 feet north of a separate traffic stop with its rear amber lights activated.
Both officers were standing on the right shoulder near the disabled vehicle assisting the driver when the collision occurred.
The driver of a black 2011 Honda Civic was traveling at an unsafe speed for the wet road conditions and began to hydroplane, according to the CHP.
The Honda spun out of control towards the parked patrol vehicle and collided with the patrol vehicle’s rear end.
The patrol vehicle was pushed forward in the direction the officers were standing.
Both officers attempted to avoid being hit, but were struck by the vehicles, according to the news release.
All parties involved sustained minor injuries.
Both officers were taken by ambulance to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital.
The driver and one passenger of the Honda were taken to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center, while the second passenger was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital.
