1875 - John F. Powell, an Irish immigrant, becomes Justice of the Peace [story]
John F. Powell

Romano’s Macaroni Grill employees received a surprise Tuesday when they showed up for a mandatory meeting to find the restaurant permanently closed.

On Tuesday morning, instead of a team meeting, employees were greeted by moving trucks, a corporate HR representative, and the company’s chief operating officer.

  57. Shea Roldan I was just talking about this babe

  58. We were just there. Holy cow!!!

  59. Chris T says:

There was a gradual, but obvious erosion of the food, kitchen and service at this restaurant. After several disappointing events here, including large family gatherings, we stopped going about 2 years ago. The managers were indifferent to our complaints. We had gone there fairly regularly for years, usually about twice a month. They also changed their menu for the worst — there are other Italian food eateries in the SCV, but at one time Macaroni Grill seemed to be one of the best, but that hasn’t been the case for a long time. Hope the employees file a complaint with the State of California Labor Board as they may be due more compensation for the way this was handled.

  60. I used to love going there. Good food. Sorry it closed.

  61. Bummer we were there a week ago, wasn’t crowded, but food was good!

  73. Erin Prinsze says:

    Anthony Terranova NOOOOOO ?????

  74. Jen Sheffer says:

    Marie Wise-Hawkins omg look!

  75. Sucks!!!
The reason they do this to employees is so they don’t take off & say screw you before it closes & leave ’em hanging. They should give them an incentive to stay rather then pull the rug out from under them. They did the same thing when the Elephant Bar closed. Really sucks the way they handle things.

  76. Wow, that really sucks that employees were treated so poorly. They couldnt even bother to give them a heads up so they could get another job. The same company also owns Chilis. Maybe Chilis is hiring.

  77. Juan Leyva says:

thts good the food was not good and the service was bad

  78. Shawnie just told me!!! That’s crazy!!!! ? JJen Sheffer

  79. Garay Javier says:

That is what the minimum wage hikes are going to do to a lot of businesses.

  80. Joe Stark says:

this used to be a favorite about 5 years ago. Then the service took a nose dive so badly that we had to scratch it off the list… it would take two hours for a business lunch. we would pass it periodically and wonder how it stayed around so long with 3 cars in the parking lot.

  81. Bri Michelle says:

Wow. Unreal and totally not ok!

  82. Julie Kim says:

Shelley Kim – the proper way to run a business obvi

  85. Ari Martin Jeri Martin-Siracusa

  86. We don’t eat out a lot; this was once a favorite…their Penne Rustica. Sad for those now out of a job. Also loved how a singer would stroll through singing opera-style.

  87. Bob Woodford says:

Worst dining experience of my life there thanks to a disgusting employee. Came back to haunt them. What corporation isn’t cowardly?

  88. Margo Caruso says:

Wow! We just ate there a few weeks ago, was not the same! Tina Boyle!

  89. Wow, that’s terrible that they let the employees know that way. Was there about 3 weeks ago.

  97. Ours closed many years ago. Happened same way. No warning at all.

  98. What a way of caring about employees! That was a slap on their faces for their service. The work force has changed dramatically. I hope someone does something about it.

  99. No! I will miss this place.

  102. Mina Del Toro, we were just talking about this place today!

  103. Deborah Wood another one bites the dust

  104. Regardless on how one feels, these employees still have families and bills jyst like everyone else. Thumbs down to owner who didn’t value their employees hence as to why the doors are now closed.

  105. Mary Eubanks says:

Closed in Ventura too. Getting a Stonefire.

  106. I wouldn’t touch that severance pay. You bet your ass I’d find a Workers Compensation attorney DAMN fast.

  107. Manal Saba Reem Rebecca Saba Braedon Braddy the one time we went and it was all bad

  108. And another one bites the dust!
