JetHawks star, Craig Schlitter, bounced back after a shaky first two innings, ending with the game erasing a three-run deficit to defeat the Modesto Nuts, 9 – 5, on Wednesday night at John Thurman Field.
The win pushed the JetHawks’ win streak to a season-high eight games and lifted their record to 22-18.
The Nuts (22-18) scored three runs (two earned) in the second inning against Schlitter (6-0) who had to throw 52 pitches over the first two innings. The right-hander settled down to retire the final 11 batters he faced. He ended up allowing three runs (two earned) over six innings on five hits. The performance marked his seventh-consecutive quality start and allowed him to become the first Cal League pitcher to six wins this season.
Lancaster tied the game with a three-run fourth inning. Brian Mundell doubled home two runs to up his RBI-total to 35 on the year. Roberto Ramos followed with a RBI-double to tie the game.
The JetHawks put up six runs to break the game open in the fifth inning against Nuts starter Pablo Lopez (2-4). Garrett Hampson and Wes Rogers drew back-to-back walks to begin the rally. Yonathan Daza gave the JetHawks the lead with a two-run single and Ramos followed with a two-run single of his own. Daza scored from first base on Ramos’ hit. Later in the inning, Hamlet Marte singled home two runs. All six of runs in the inning scored with two outs.
The series comes to a close on Thursday afternoon at John Thurman Field. Trey Killian (5-0) will start for the JetHawks against Nick Neidert (3-0). First pitch is 4:05 p.m. It will be the final regular season game between the clubs in 2017.
