1877 - Newhall School District formed, upon petition of J.F. Powell and 47 others [story]
Newhall School kids

On Thursday, June 7, JSB Development showcased the first of Vista Canyon’s mixed use retail/office structures in an introduction to the SCV commercial brokerage community.

The well-attended luncheon event included a tour of the retail/office building and a unique opportunity to view the development through a drone-mounted camera. Introduced as its “signature” building, the 3-story, 57,000 SF mixed use office/retail structure is the first of 5 such buildings planned along Lincoln Place, Vista Canyon’s “main street.”

Architectural highlights include exposed reinforced concrete walls and ceilings, open floor plans, outdoor balconies, expansive and operable windows, and views on all four sides. Golden stonework and custom-engraved metalwork showcasing the California poppy will adorn the exterior. This building will be ready for occupancy end of 2018.

Vista Canyon is the first transit-oriented sustainable community to be created in Santa Clarita. The community will include 1100 residences, over 950,00 SF of office and retail space, 200 hotel rooms. An embedded Metrolink station and bus transit terminal open tremendous opportunities for non-personal vehicle commuting, making it the first truly car-optional community ever conceived in the SCV.

Sustainability is delivered through use of solar, 30+ EV stations, and dedicated water reclamation plant, along with community gardens, huge parks and ample open space, and miles of bike paths and trails.

  1. Monica, Voltaire. Get ready for some traffic

  2. Where are they going to be building this? They said it was the East side of Santa Clarita…does that mean Canyon Country? That would be awesome.

  3. -Developers& City Of SCV “Oh let’s add 1100 more residents” $$$$

    – Current Residents “what about widening sand canyon or updating the current over worked infrastructure to handle the new population?“

-Developers and City of SCV “lol not our problem”

  4. And only one hospital for all these people ??‍♀️ emergency room is already a 4hr wait. ?? awesome.

TRAFFIC & buses on Soledad!!! ?

  6. Nanci T says:

Ugh… And they want us to be excited for this? Im all for creating new jobs etc…. But seriously? Our infrastructure needs to be improved first…this area was cool due to the open and surrounding spaces… now you cant go anywhere anytime without huge traffic jams…. and talk about the 14? omg.. I looked forward to the summer time traffic it freed up some.. but now .. its still a parking lot…with all the people coming in… the area has changed… trash everywhere.. security guards when shopping…

  7. Nanci Tretta says:

Ugh…. this is crazy! they need to give the people who live here a vote… they need to fix the infrastructure first…. we can barely handle the over population of cars etc now… any where/day of the week… grid lock….14 a parking lot….yeah lets add more and more… the area was awesome for the open spaces that surrounded us… now once view from front door of rolling hills is now a crappy view of the hills grated down and houses being built….how much more can we with stain? Im all for new jobs etc but come on… my lawn has still not come back from since that water drought we had/have… frustrated for sure! has anyone noticed now how there are more security guards in stores we locally shop in? trash on the streets …….:(

  8. Tessa Lucero says:

And this is built in the floodplain. The balconies may make rescues by boat easier when the river floods again.

  9. waterwatcher says:

And its all in the floodplain of the Santa CLara River. So they narrowed the river with levies. Get ready for downstream flooding. This is the great planning we do. Pave over the ground water re-charge areas so reduced water supply (they call their sanitation plant a “Water Factory”, what a euphemistic joke!- like they are making water NO!). AND at tax payer expense they are moving this Via Princessa metro station that was in the center of the City up hear. The developer was supposed to pay for it, but your wonderful City Council decided that we taxpayers should fund this benefit for the developer. Time for a new council and support for the local environmental groups that are fighting this stuff.

    Some people…

“An embedded Metrolink station and bus transit terminal open tremendous opportunities for non-personal vehicle commuting, making it the first truly car-optional community ever conceived in the SCV”

“Over 950,00 SF of office and retail space”

Some people need to read the article before they respond. This is a great project and is bringing business and retail to the CC area, while promoting alternative ways to commute to work thus reducing traffic.

Yes, it’s what they were calling green or sustainable development a decade ago or so, and what the Legislature is currently pushing …. with upstairs residential over ground-floor retail built around a transportation hub (in this case a Metrolink station) so people don’t need to use personal vehicles so much, with water infrastructure (in this case a recycled water facility).

  11. PJ says:

I feel so sorry for us!!! No one listens to what residents are concerned about. Their going to destroy
this valley with or without your blessings. They apparently forgot 1994 earthquake when everyone was “STUCK” , no movement. Wishing all of us luck.

  12. jim says:

If y’all think this jumped up and bit ya with nobody looking – think again.

NO developments inside the city of SClarita happen without City Council approval (except legacy stuff from before City-hood).

And I wonder just exactly what an “embedded” Metrolink station is? Since the embedded station for the entire Santa Clarita Valley is now on the far east side of the City (instead of being relatively “centered” as in Via Princessa), I’m guessing that the Bus Terminal mentioned will be bringing Metro passengers from all over the valley to this one, small location for access to the trains. Wherein, by the way, everyone including the Vista Canyon Rancheros will be sharing parking that is only going to be provided for a percentage of potential users.

It’s in the approved documents for the development. Look it up on the City’s website.

  13. jim says:

Oops. Sorry Leon. I sit corrected, especially since I read about it here first.

  14. Joshua Freund says:

Because we need more retail space, right? 1/4 of the retail spaces in CC are vacant as it is
