Public officials released statements and posted comments to social media Thursday in the wake of the Saugus High School shooting Thursday morning.

City of Santa Clarita: “Families in our community have suffered unimaginable loss and pain this morning. Our hearts and minds are with the victims, students, staff and families of Saugus High, as well as all those affected by this senseless tragedy.”

Kathryn Barger, Los Angeles County Supervisor, Fifth District: “This is a community that comes together. We’re all standing in solidarity with the Santa Clarita Valley and will continue to offer mental health resources and support for those who need it. #SaugusStrong.”

California Governor Gavin Newsom issued the following statement:

“I am closely monitoring the incident at Saugus High School in Santa Clarita this morning, and my Administration is working in close coordination with local law enforcement. Jennifer and I extend our thoughts to the parents, families and friends of the students and faculty, and the Santa Clarita community.”

Chad Wolf, Acting Secretary, U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS_Wolf): “My heart is with the community at this time and DHS will be monitoring the situation closely and are standing by, able to support local law enforcement and the FBI in any way we can.” Read his full statement here.

President Donald Trump was monitoring ongoing reports about the shooting, the White House said in a statement.

“The White House encourages all those in the area to follow the advice of local law enforcement and first responders,” the statement read.

“We continue to monitor the terrible events at Saugus High School in Santa Clarita, California through our ongoing communications with Local, State, and Federal Authorities,” he tweeted at 3:34 p.m. “We send our deepest condolences to the families and friends of those tragically lost, and we pray for the speedy recovery of the wounded.”
