This is the fifth year of the festival at Rivendale Park in Towsley Canyon. To mark the occasion, the Santa Clarita Shakespeare Festival is adding a new celebration to it opening night gala Friday, July 11: The Court of the Lord Chamberlain, honoring those who have made a significant contribution to the arts in Santa Clarita in general, or the Shakespeare Festival and the growing LA SummerFest in particular.
This year’s inductees – the first to be inducted into the Court of the Lord Chamberlain – are Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich and Santa Clarita Mayor Laurene Weste.
In days of old, the Lord Chamberlain was responsible for the patronage of the court. Shakespeare was supported by the court, and for a while he wrote exclusively for the company of players named The Lord Chamberlain’s Men.
The induction will take place during Friday’s opening night gala for the LA SummerFest. Tickets are $55 per person and include dinner, wine and and beverages, dessert and a special preview performance of the Shakespeare in the Park production of “Cymbeline.” In addition to purchasing tickets, community members may show support the honorees by making a donation as a tribute.
To purchase tickets or make a donation, visit https://lordchamberlaingala.eventbrite.com. All proceeds support the free Shakespeare in the Park performances and the organization’s High School Summer Apprentice program.
The Shakespeare in the Park series is part of the LA SummerFest. For a complete schedule and more information, visit www.LASummerFest.org.
