The 8th Annual Wheelchair Sports Festival, a two-day free sporting event open to the public that features 10 adaptive recreational activities, will roll into the Santa Clarita Sports Complex Saturday and Sunday, April 27-28.

Presented by the Triumph Foundation, a nonprofit organization working to improve the lives of people living with disabilities based in the Santa Clarita Valley, the festival is free and open to all abilities.

Organizers expect more than 1,000 participants, plus spectators and volunteers.

The 10 adaptive recreational activities include wheelchair hockey, basketball, rugby (a.k.a. murderball), racquetball, baseball, hand cycling, SCUBA, curling, track & field, wheelchair skating (WCMX), and a powerchair rodeo race.

Saturday’s hours will be 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday’s hours will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Founded in 2008, the organization has touched the lives of more than 5,000 individuals with disabilities, provided $500,000 in assistance to people with inadequate medical insurance and financial hardship, performed 20 home and bathroom remodels, donated 10 wheelchair accessible vehicles to people who did not have the means to purchase one on their own, delivered more than 2,000 Care Baskets to people that suffered paralyzing injuries, and regularly visits 18 area hospitals and rehabilitation centers throughout Southern California.
