fataltc[KHTS] – A Bakersfield man was killed in a traffic collision on southbound Interstate 5 in the Gorman area.

David Paul Frost, 48, of Bakersfield, has been identified as the man who was killed when his car smashed into a stopped truck that a flat tire, according to a report and Lt. Ed Winter with the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

Around 3:55 a.m. Friday, 28-year-old man from Fountain Valley, was driving a 2014 Freightliner Box Van Truck on the southbound I-5 freeway in the number two lane approaching Quail Lake Road, according to a California Highway Patrol report.

The vehicle’s right front tire began to deflate quickly and he move his vehicle to the left in the number one lane where the vehicle became disabled, according to the report. The driver got out of the vehicle to inspect it.

Moments later, Frost was driving a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta southbound in the number one lane.

“Due to (Frost’s) unsafe speed for traffic conditions, (Frost) failed to stope (his vehicle) in time to avoid a traffic collision,” said Officer D. English in a report.

As a result of the crash, Frost’s car was lodged under the rear of the truck and Frost suffered fatal injuries, according to the report.

The driver of the truck was not injured in the collision.

Drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be factors in the crash, according to the report.

  1. You mean to tell me the truck driver stopped in the lane of traffic because of a flat? Outrageous!!! The truck should have pulled out of the traffic lanes instead the driver caused the death of an innocent person. RIP Mr Frost, condolences to your family, friends and loved ones. I hope they charge the truck driver

  2. Justen Zimmerman, this may have been why traffic was backed up.

  3. That was an accident earlier this morning I did see the fire when I was coming down so I know that’s what was blocking the traffic so 2 bad incidences on the i5 this Friday :(

  4. Dan O'Connell says:

The Number 1 lane is the fast lane. The truck driver should have been in the right lanes, which would have made it easy for him to pull off to the side safely. There must be more to the story. This brings up all the unsafe conditions on California highways due to emergency lanes and pull-off spots being blocked by concrete barriers. This is necessary at times but when there is no place to stop for emergencies, the highway work should be done in the quickest possible way in order to get rid of the dangerous situation. The time it’s taken to build the 126 overpass at Commerce Way in Valencia is absurd. I pass by there at least twice every work day and there’s hardly anyone working on the thing.

I was there minutes after the accident no lights no flares…. dark pitch black two cars in front of me almost hit the truck if I had not seen the two cars ahead of me just missing the truck I could of been the next victim…That truck driver is the cause of that accident stopping in the fast lane and not putting out flares or having his lights on,,,,how can that idiot Highway patrol think it the car drivers fault ,,,,fool

  6. Aeramy says:

My dearest father you will be missed!! I cry because you were such a great husband of 30 years and a great father for 26 years. I don’t believe he was going an unsafe speed because he would always tell my mom and siblings to drive safe and safely.I miss you soon much! Ohh dear I have such heartache

  7. Raymond Andreas says:

I know this man David and as a person he is one of the greatest people I’ve known. He and his wife are our Sunday school directors. He was a true worker in every since of the word. He was the bread winner of his family and was a solid guy. He always had a listening ear and never judged. His children and wife are some of the best ever and now he’s been taken over how I feel is something that could have been avoided. Who in their right mind would pull to the fast lane instead of the right where your supposed to. Speeding or not this should not have happened. A great man has been taken and now an empty spot is there where he once was. You will be dearly missed my friend. Until we meet in heaven!

  8. Geraldine Rice Dunegan says:

I’m so sad at the senseless and tragic loss of life of my childhood friend. His beautiful wife Sonia and their children will miss him dearly. The grandchildren yet to be born will never know first hand what a wonderful grandparent he would have been to them because some ass decided to not use or follow any rules of the road!!! Selfish!!! You took away a precious person who I played with as children and knew to be nothing but kind and loving!!
He was a son, a brother, a husband, a father, grandparent, and best friend, cousin, nephew, and and important part of a lot of people’s lives!!!
A flat tire in the fast lane on a big rig? Seriously? You have left so many people hurting by your selfish choice to even drive in the fast lane and the choice to stop there!!!
    It’s a crime!!!
Sonya, I love you sweet friend and your husband was a major part of my childhood and a great part of it!! He was the sweetest little boy! And grew into an awesome man!! I’m so sad and sorry for your loss sweetie!!
RIP David. May you dance and sing before the King of Kings!!! Enjoy your eternal life with The Great I Am ❤️

  9. Ann Hustis says:

Bad bad road hate having to be on it. Mostly because of speeders.
