Snapping a two-game winning streak, the unranked Biola Eagles edged the 7th-ranked Lady Mustangs with 74-61 victory Saturday night in La Mirada.

With the loss, The Master’s College women’s basketball team’s 2013-14 season record moves to 19-6 and 7-3 in GSAC play.

“We’ve been struggling to find rhythm on both ends without a couple key guards, but tonight we just got outworked,” commented Lady Mustang head coach Dan Waldeck. “I’m very disappointed with our effort and defense.  Give Biola credit, they made shots they don’t normally make. We needed more than just one or two people to play all out. We will have a re-focusing practice on Monday.”

Despite the overall outcome, the contest was very close in the first half.   After tying the game on 10 separate occasions, TMC entered into the break with a 33-31 advantage.

At the break, Jacquelyn Marshall (San Clemente, CA) led all scorers with 14 points. The squad finished the half by going 14-25 (56%) from the field.

A Zoe Scott (Spokane, WA) three-pointer and two free throws by Kelly Burns (Yorba Linda, CA) gave TMC a 38-33 advantage early in the second half.  Determined to stay in the fight, the Eagles managed to regain the lead at the 16:26 mark off a Chelsea Hill layup.

And while a Whitney Best (Snohomish, WA) layup gave TMC a minor lead with 13:32 left to play, the Eagles took control of the court for the rest of the evening. In the final 10 minutes of the game, the Eagles produced a 22-10 run, which ultimately proved too much for TMC to handle.

At the end of the night, Marshall led all scorers with 21 points, while freshman standout Megan Lindsley (Vancouver, WA) posted 14 points.  Marshall led the Lady Mustangs with 7 rebounds.  Olivia Thompson (Huntington Beach, CA) led the squad in assists with 4 dimes.

As a team, the Lady Mustangs went 23-52 (44%) from the field, 5-17 (29%) behind the arc, and 10-17 (58%) behind the charity stripe.

Now, with just four games left in the regular season schedule, the Lady Mustangs will look to rebound on Tuesday when the 12th-ranked Westmont Warriors march into The MacArthur Center. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
