LANCASTER – The University of Antelope Valley (UAV) baseball program is pleased to announce that it will host the 2020 California Pacific Conference Baseball Championships from May 3-5, 2020 (May 4-6, 2020 if Providence Christian College qualifies) at The Hangar in Lancaster.
“We are so excited to have the opportunity to host the 2020 Cal Pac Baseball Championships at the Lancaster JetHawks facility,” said UAV Director of Athletics Gary Dickerson, “and we know our coaches and athletes have put in a lot of hard work to get to this point. We are extremely proud of them and look forward to hosting this competitive event.”
The 2020 Cal Pac Baseball Championships marks the third season that a Cal Pac postseason tournament will be held, with the Pioneers winning both the inaugural and second-ever Cal Pac tournament in 2018 and 2019, respectively.
The location of the 2020 tournament will be new as it was held at Hohokam Stadium, the spring training facility of MLB’s Oakland Athletics, the previous two seasons, hosted both times by Benedictine University at Mesa.
According to the current Cal Pac rules, the winner of the Cal Pac regular-season title has the opportunity to host the following year’s tournament. Despite winning four-consecutive Cal Pac regular-season titles, the Pioneers were unable to host the previous two seasons due to scheduling conflicts.
When asked about UAV hosting for the first time, Cal Pac Commissioner Don Ott said, “The University of Antelope Valley earned the right to host the 2020 Cal Pac Championships and has proven its ability to put on a first-class event. Our baseball championship has been lauded as one of the best in the nation, and the Cal Pac is excited to bring high-quality NAIA baseball to The Hanger in Lancaster.”
The tournament does not include Cal Pac teams exclusively as five teams qualify total, including the top-three Cal Pac teams in the final conference standings, one team from the NAIA West group (excluding World Series host Lewis-Clark State), and the highest-remaining team in the mid-April BoChip ratings.
The Pioneers will have their sights on earning their fifth-consecutive Cal Pac title in front of their home fans next May, this time though under first-year head coach Neal White. When asked about the opportunity to host the tournament, White commented, “The opportunity to host the Cal Pac Championships is absolutely incredible. I am extremely excited to have this event locally and to utilize this as a platform to connect with the community as a whole.”
