The City of Santa Clarita is proud to announce that the Canyon Country Jo Anne Darcy Library is now fully open to the public following completion of building repairs, which limited hours and access during construction.
“I want to express my gratitude to Los Angeles County staff for working with us to complete repairs in a timely manner,” commented Mayor Laurie Ender. “We are pleased to once again provide full library services to the residents of Canyon Country and appreciate their patience and support throughout construction.”
In November 2011, the Canyon Country Library began operating on a limited basis while the City of Santa Clarita and County of Los Angeles worked to repair carpet damages that occurred prior to the City’s July 1, 2011 assumption of library operations.
During this period, the City took the opportunity to expand the Canyon Country Library’s book and audio visual offerings, increase study areas available to the public, add lounge seating and redesign the children’s section. Additionally, the City added early literacy computers featuring interactive social studies, math and science programs for kids ages 3 to 6.
Repairs to the carpet and reinstallation of the furniture and library materials were covered under warranty and managed by the County of Los Angeles, Internal Services Department, who required the general contractor to handle repairs. The repairs were needed due to water damage to the floors in fall 2011.
Since the opening of the Santa Clarita Public Library in July 2011, residents have enjoyed increased hours of operation, a $900,000 infusion of new books and media, upgraded facilities, and new technology. Next year, the City will add new technology and more public use computers to meet high traffic needs.
The Canyon Country Jo Anne Darcy Library is located at 18601 Soledad Canyon Road. Hours of operation are Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
