Lamont Barton, 42, a Canyon Country resident, has been convicted on felony fraud, identity theft and probation violation charges and sentenced to five years and 8 months in L.A. County Jail, according to a post on the station’s Facebook page. Here’s the story:
Partnering with the community and conducting regular probation searches have been very successful in combatting crime in Santa Clarita Valley. One of the many examples of how regular probation searches have uncovered criminal activity was recently demonstrated by our Crime Impact Team.
On Friday, October 27, 2017, probationer Lamont Barton, 42, was sentenced to five years, 8 months in L.A. County Jail. This sentencing was the result of a probation compliance search that CIT Team deputies conducted on September 14, 2017.
On that Thursday morning in October, Barton was one of several probationers that CIT Team visited as part of their day’s probation searches.
When they knocked on the door of the residence located on the 27500 block of Marta Lane in Canyon Country, a female adult came to the door, who was later identified as Barton’s roommate, Ishaelle Marroquin, 40.
As deputies were in the process of searching the apartment, Barton returned home.
Within the rooms of the residence, deputies uncovered numerous fraudulent checks, mail and credit cards with different people’ names and addresses. It was later determined that Barton was using checks and banking information to fraudulently purchase vehicles from auto dealerships.
Barton and his roommate were both arrested on felony fraud and identity theft charges and deputies immediately notified his probation officer of his probation violation.
The teams at SCV Sheriff’s will continue to do probation searches on a regular basis. Together, with your help — we can help keep our valley “in check.”
