Calvin Estrada and Josh Arkin both hit homers and starter Eddie Rosales tossed seven strong innings to help propel College of the Canyons to a 4-2 home conference victory over Barstow College at Cougar Field on Tuesday.
The win helped Canyons (13-9, 4-2) get back on track after a two-game skid earlier in the month. COC has now won back-to-back games after also picking up a 10-0 win at Victor Valley College on March 17.
The Vikings pushed across an unearned run in the first inning but were otherwise silenced by Rosales (1-1). The freshman lefty struck out nine batters and issued one walk to get the win.
Estrada tied the game with a solo shot to right field in the bottom of the second that helped spark a three-run rally. Later in the inning, Senituli Taufahema doubled home two runs to put the score at 3-1.
Things settled down until Arkin’s home run blast in the seventh which put COC in control at 4-1.
Barstow added a run in the eighth on a sacrifice fly to make it 4-2, before Jarrett Poh closed out the game to pick up his second save of the season.
Here’s the box score.
Canyons will continue its three-game set with Barstow later this week with a few schedule changes due to inclement weather.
COC is slated to travel to Barstow on Friday for a 1 p.m. contest. The Cougars will then return home on Saturday to host the Vikings for the series finale beginning 11:30 a.m.
