College of the Canyons sophomore setter Taylor Kasha has been named the Western State Conference (WSC) Female Athlete of the Week in recognition of a recent string of performances which have significantly contributed to the COC volleyball team’s current eight game winning streak.
Kasha helped lead the No. 18 state-ranked Cougars (12-3, 4-0) to a pair of victories last week, including last Friday’s 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-18) sweep of No. 21 Santa Monica College, which put Canyons in sole possession of first place in the WSC South.
Kasha was key to COC’s success vs. the Corsairs, as the Valencia High School graduate distributed the ball to the tune of 38 assists, while also recording two kills, eight digs and a service ace.
Earlier in the week, the Cougars also defeated Glendale College 3-0 (25-12, 25-19, 25-15).
In all, Kasha handed out a total of 63 assists, 11 digs, four block assists, three aces, and three kills over the two games.
Canyons is currently in sole possession of first place in the WSC South. The Cougars join Santa Barbara City College as the only other WSC team to boast a perfect conference record.
This week, COC will take its winning streak on the road for conference matchups against Bakersfield on Wednesday, and Antelope Valley College on Friday, Oct. 24.
