The Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation kicks off its public summer swim season beginning Saturday, June 2, 2018, with the opening of six swimming pools for free recreational swimming.

Twenty more pools will open on Saturday, June 9, and two pools will open on Saturday, June 16. The start of the 10-week recreational summer swimming season, which coincides with the various beginnings of summer vacations at school districts throughout the county, will be open to the public free of charge. All county pools will also be offering free or low-cost youth and adult swim lessons. Scholarships for the 10-lesson program for low-income households are available, and applications can be obtained at the pools.

Recreational Summer Swimming is being offered at the following county parks June 2 through Aug. 5:
Val Verde Community Regional Park – 30300 W. Arlington Road, Val Verde.
Castaic Regional Sports Complex – 31350 N. Castaic Road, Castaic

Belvedere Community Regional Park – 5035 E First St., Los Angeles.
Norman S. Johnson Aquatic Center – 405 S. Santa Anita Ave., Arcadia.
George Lane Park – 5520 W. Avenue L-8, Quartz Hill.
Everett Martin Park – 35548 N. 92nd Street East, Littlerock.

Recreational Summer Swimming will be offered at the following parks starting June 9 through Aug. 19:

Mary M. Bethune Park – 1244 E. 61st St., Los Angeles.
Ted Watkins Memorial Park – 1335 E. 103rd St., Los Angeles.
Col. Leon H. Washington Park – 8900 S. Maie Ave., Los Angeles.
George Washington Carver Park – 1400 E. 118th St., Los Angeles.
Jesse Owens Community Regional Park – 9835 S. Western Ave., Los Angeles.
Mona Park – 2291 E. 121st St., Compton.
Roy Campanella Park – 14812 Stanford Ave., Compton.
Helen Keller Park – 1045 S. Vermont Ave., Los Angeles.
Franklin D. Roosevelt Park – 7600 Graham Ave., Los Angeles.

Alondra Community Regional Park – 3353 Redondo Beach Blvd., Lawndale

“We encourage the public to take advantage of our free countywiderecreational swimming programs at our county pools,” said John Wicker, director of the Department of Parks and Recreation. “It’s a great way for the whole family to cool off during hot summer days, and also an opportunity for people of all ages to learn how to swim through our free or low-cost lessons.”
