From the social media account of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station:
With the onset of summer temperatures, Crime Prevention Unit deputies parked the patrol cars and took to foot patrol, checking the welfare of homeless individuals on Monday.
Deputies made sure individuals were aware of resources available, including the location of ‘cooling centers’ to escape the extreme heat.
Deputies also educated individuals about the danger of lighting camp fires to cook food. Not only could it endanger them, but it also could pose a threat to surrounding communities.
One woman that deputies made contact with in a Canyon Country wash area was found to be ‘gravely disabled.’ She was in a condition where she was unable to move and seek help for herself. Deputies contacted the Fire Department to assist in getting her transported to the hospital for medical treatment.
Deputies contacted the station’s MET (Mental Evaluation Team) for two individuals. One individual admitted to feeling suicidal, and the other individual was elderly and displaying symptoms of mental illness.
If our community members should see any homeless individuals that they are concerned about, and would like deputies to check on their welfare, please reach out to Deputy Betsy Shackelford of the Crime Prevention Unit at (661) 255-1121, ext. 5816 or email BSShacke@lasd.org.

Look at all that trash! PLEASE get them out of the river and into shelters. They are starting fires and lack sanitation in the very areas were we get our drinking water. They are not only endangering themselves, but the whole community. This really needs to be addressed. We passed that tax bill to fund shelters. Where are those shelters?
Help these folks… I now that some LIKE to live in the ravines and under bridges… But when their health is at dire threat, they need help…
