The National Weather Service warns of critical fire weather conditions in Southern California and the Santa Clarita Valley from Saturday night at 10 through Sunday afternoon at 3 as forecasters predict gusty northeast Santa Ana wind and low relative humidity.
The service issued a Red Flag Warning Friday for Los Angeles County, San Fernando Valley, Santa Clarita Valley, Ventura County coastal valleys, Ventura County interior valleys, Los Angeles County mountains, Angeles National Forest, Santa Monica Mountains Recreational Area, Ventura County mountains and Los Padres National Forest.
Strong high pressure will build into the Great Basin this weekend, bringing a moderate to strong Santa Ana wind event across the fire district Saturday night through Monday.
Elevated fire weather conditions will be possible for coastal areas of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties over the weekend.
Wind from the northeast will range from 25-35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph in the aforementioned areas. Isolated gusts to 65 mph may occur at windier passes.
The relative humidity will range from 10-20 percent, with poor overnight recoveries. Minimum humidity will drop to 10-20 percent and locally single-digits on Sunday and Monday with gusts of 55 to 65 mph in the mountains and 40 to 50 mph in the valleys.
The combination of strong wind, low humidity, warm temperatures and dry fuels will bring critical fire weather conditions. Any new fire ignitions will have the potential for large growth with rapid fire spread.
