NORTHRIDGE — After taking their Fall semester finals this week, the CSUN women’s basketball team travels 30 miles down the I-5 to the Galen Center where the Matadors will face USC Sunday afternoon.
Kevin Strauss has the audio call on the CSUN Sports Network presented by Dignity Health. Strauss is on the air at 1:50 p.m. for the 2 p.m. start. The game will be streamed on Pac-12.com beginning at 2 p.m.
The Women of Troy have been off since Dec. 1 when USC improved to 8-0 with an 86-72 victory at UNLV. Minyon Moore leads the Women of Troy in scoring (16.6), rebounding (6.1), assists (42), and steals (18). Two other players; Mairya Moore (12.1) and Shaleexus Aaron (10.1) are averaging in double figures for USC this season.
Sunday marks the fourth time that the Women of Troy have played a Big West opponent this season as USC has already defeated UC Riverside (73-55), Long Beach State (86-50), and UC Santa Barbara (82-39). This is the 29th time that CSUN and USC are playing with the Women of Troy leading the all-time series 17-11.
CSUN is 5-6 after splitting a pair of games last week. Channon Fluker became the all-time leading scorer in CSUN school history when she posted 19 against in the 72-53 loss Loyola Marymount on Friday night.
Fluker’s 1,786 points broke the previous school mark of 1,761 which was set by CSUN assistant coach Ashlee Guay who played for the Matadors from 2011-15. She sits in a tie for 11th with Cal State Fullerton’s Toni Thomas in Big West history.
Fluker recorded her 63rd career double-double in the 77-74 victory over San Diego State last Sunday when she scored 18 points and blocked 11 shots. Her career double-double total is tied for the lead among active Division I women’s basketball players with Iowa’s Megan Gustafson.
Fluker’s 1,200 career rebounds are the most among active Division I players and is now the second most in Big West Conference history. Judy Mosley of Hawai’i (1987-90) is the Big West career leader in rebounding with 1,441.
Serafina Maulupe is closing in on becoming the 13th CSUN women’s basketball player to score at least 1,000 career points. Coming off a season-high 22 against San Diego State, Maulupe has scored 962 points in a Matador uniform.
