#GivingTuesday is Coming – 12.3.2013
What is #Giving Tuesday? It is a movement to create a national day of giving to kick off the giving season. It is the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday.Help us to kick off 2014 by raising our first month of Food Assistance support by reaching our goal of $4,000.00 for that month. The MHF Family Food Assistance Program helps qualifying families of children diagnosed with cancer who live within our service area. It is different from other food assistance programs in that it is targeted to families in need who are battling pediatric cancer, and is an integral part of a series of programs that address the unique needs of this population. This program helps put food on the tables of families battling cancer by providing $200 grocery cards each month (for up to 12 months).

Besides the emotional toll that cancer takes on a family, there is the financial impact, too. Parents often have to leave their jobs partially, or entirely, while their child undergoes treatment. The loss of income often causes financial difficulty and family stress. We provide food assistance for up to one year, depending on the family’s circumstances. This aid helps insure that there will be food on the table, and that parents are able to be with their children as they battle cancer.

As you prepare for your holiday shopping, please think about making a donation to MHF through #GivingTuesday. It’s a holiday gift that will make a difference in many lives and many families.
