Master’s head coach Zach Schroeder has signed decorated sprinter Micaiah Scott to his roster for 2020, evidence that TMU track and field won’t lose any of the momentum it generated in recent years.

Micaiah Scott qualified for sectional championships in multiple events during her time at Torrance High (California), and she joins a sprints team that will train under a former Olympian and that features an All-American hurdler.

“I believe the most important part of getting your result right is getting your team right,” Schroeder said. “Micaiah is the exact piece we need to get our team right as we continue to build a track and field program.”

Scott advanced to the California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section prelims in two relays and the 100- and 200-meter dashes in 2017. She added long jump to her CIF resume in 2018 and she went to CIF in long jump and triple jump in 2019. She won multiple league titles along the way. At Master’s, she hopes to improve her times while living in an environment she found exceptionally welcoming during her recruitment.

“(I loved) how encouraging, kind and familial all the people who reached out to me seemed,” she said. “I look forward to working with the track team and coaches.”

One of those coaches will be Master’s sprints coach Denean Hill, arguably the most accomplished track and field coach currently serving in the NAIA. Hill competed at the 1984, 1988 and 1992 Olympics in the 400 and as part of the 4×400 relay.

The last two years, Hill has worked with Seanna Nalbandyan, who earned NAIA All-American honors in the 400 hurdles as both a freshman and a sophomore.

Schroeder is confident Scott will fit in as an athlete and as a person.

“I am confident God will use Micaiah’s athletics for His glory and that she will influence the Kingdom of God,” Schroeder said. “I am thrilled with the addition of Micaiah to my roster.”
