4:45 p.m.: The suspect is now being booked at the SCV Sheriff’s Station, according to Sgt. Chris Maurizi, the watch sergeant.
“The SWAT team surrounded the house, made several call-outs, deployed some diversionary devices and the suspect woke up, essentially, and walked out and gave himself up around 2 p.m.,” Maurizi said.
The suspect, Robert Mount, 52, of Newhall, is being charged initially with domestic violence, Maurizi said.
“A domestic violence incident occurred this morning between him and his wife, and as a result of that incident, he barricaded himself inside a house with a firearm,” Maurizi said. “The victim is not injured nor is anyone else who was there.”
Further charges including weapons charges may be added after detectives complete their investigation and present evidence to the District Attorney, he said.
2 p.m.: The incident has been resolved peacefully, according to an update from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
The suspect came out of the house and is in custody, and the neighborhood is safe.
“He gave himself up,” said Sgt. Chris Maurizi of the SCV Sheriff’s Station.
Maurizi said the suspect is being transported to the station now for booking. He did not know what charges would be filed, if any.
1:36 p.m.: The situation remains unchanged, according to Deputy O’Brian of the SCV Sheriff’s Station.
The Special Enforcement Bureau’s Special Weapons Team has assumed command of the tactical response and the Crisis Negotiation Team is on the scene in an attempt to bring the situation to a peaceful conclusion.
11:28 a.m.: “We’re at an armed barricaded suspect call,” according to an update from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s social media.
The surrounding homes were evacuated for the safety of the residents, according to officials.
