Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies detained two juveniles Wednesday after the teens allegedly distracted maintenance workers at a Canyon Country apartment complex, and then brazenly stole the workers’ company-issued golf cart.
The alleged theft occurred on the 18400 block of Jakes Way.
Here’s more from the station’s social media:
“The two subjects, both male juveniles, 15 years of age, drove the golf cart against oncoming traffic on Sierra Highway, toward and across Soledad Canyon Road until the golf cart became disabled by a curb.
“The subject(s) then exited the golf cart and fled on foot. The maintenance workers, who were victims of the theft, had followed the teens to the location and were yelling out, ‘He stole our golf cart.’
“A male adult bystander assisted in detaining one of the juveniles until deputies arrived on (the) scene. The two male adult victims required medical treatment.
“Deputies took the 15-year-old male into custody on charges of taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, a felony.
“When the teen was brought into Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, one of the COBRA detectives recognized the teen as being a subject wanted in a robbery he was investigating that occurred approximately one week prior.
“On Monday afternoon, September 23, a male juvenile victim was sitting on a planter outside a business on the 19300 block of Soledad Canyon Road, Canyon Country when two male juveniles allegedly approached him and one threatened him with a knife.
“The subjects asked the victim for money and after the victim told them he did not have any, one of the subjects began punching him in the head area and then stomped on the victim’s prescription eyeglasses.
“The other subject got onto the victim’s skateboard and took off carrying the victim’s backpack. The victim required medical treatment.
“Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s (Station) COBRA detectives worked to identify and locate the second subject. On Thursday afternoon, October 3, the second juvenile, also a 15-year-old male, was taken into custody on robbery charges stemming from the September 23 incident.
“The victims in both the golf cart theft and the robbery positively identified the subjects as being the perpetrators of the crimes.
“Both male juvenile subjects were transferred to Sylmar Juvenile Hall where they await an October 7 court date.”
