The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has promoted Captain Justin Diez, head of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, to the position of Commander of the LASD North Patrol Division.

The promotion took effect on Sunday, April 6.

In his new position, Diez will oversee the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, as well as the Lancaster, Palmdale, Malibu/Lost Hills and West Hollywood stations.

Diez is a 23-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. He was promoted to the rank of Captain and assigned to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station in March of 2020.

Diez entered the Sheriff’s Training Academy in December of 2000. Upon graduating from Academy Class #327, he was assigned to the Pitchess Detention Center – North County Correctional Facility. He also served as a deputy at various assignments including Transit Services Bureau, Community Oriented Policing Services Bureau and Operation Safe Streets Bureau.

Upon his promotion to sergeant in 2010, Diez was assigned to Lancaster Station, Community Oriented Policing Services Bureau and Internal Affairs Bureau.

After being promoted to lieutenant in 2015, Diez was assigned to Lancaster Station, Internal Affairs Bureau, Santa Clarita Valley Station, Lost Hills Station and the Hall of Justice.

Diez holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology/Criminology from California State University, Northridge and a Master of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Cincinnati Ohio.

Diez has been a resident of Santa Clarita Valley for over 21 years where he lives with his wife and two children.

He also serves on the board of the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley and the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Foundation.

Lt. Brandon Barclay has been named the temporary SCV Sheriff’s Station captain. It is expected a new captain will be named for the SCV Station in the near future.
