This latest digital offering from the DMV – which has more than doubled the number of online transactions over the past few years – provides employers a paperless option for the state’s driver monitoring program, which previously could only be done by mail.

How does EPN work?  Certain employers are required to enroll their drivers in the program. These employers apply online to receive driver records electronically. The DMV will provide the record for each driver enrolled in the EPN program to determine whether the individual has a valid driver’s license and is authorized to drive certain types of vehicles. The DMV also offers employers an annual report for each driver and provides reports automatically when employees are involved in traffic convictions, suspensions or collisions throughout the year.

Completing the online application takes only minutes, and DMV representatives are available to help if needed. Employers must pay a $5 fee per driver to enroll in the EPN program. The cost to request a driver record electronically is $2, compared to $5 by mail. Records generated automatically based on reportable activity or a new annual report will be $1.

Why is using digital better?  Digital is faster, more secure and helps protect the environment. Paper applications mailed though the U.S. postal service may experience varied delivery times and there are postage costs. Manually processing the documents takes longer, and the digital process eliminates the unnecessary use of paper.
