1902 - Hi Jolly (Hadji Ali), Gen. E.F. Beale's Syrian camel driver, dies at Quartzsite, Ariz. [story]
Hi Jolly's Tomb

The Los Angeles Dodgers, who continue to hold the best record in the Majors and are on pace to potentially tie the 1906 Cubs and the 2001 Mariners for the most wins in MLB history, return home tonight for a brief three-game homestand against the Milwaukee Brewers.

The weekend is filled with promotions, pre- and post-game activities and special events, including Friday Night Fireworks presented by Denny’s, a Rick Monday Saves the Flag Great Dodger Moments Coin presented by 76 on Saturday and a Kids Hamper giveaway presented by Your SoCal Honda Dealers on Sunday.

On Sunday, fans can also enjoy Viva Los Dodgers presented by Coca-Cola and Spectrum starting two hours before the game at the 76 station and postgame Kids Run the Bases presented by New Balance.

The club also has special event ticket packages for each game, which can be purchased at Dodgers.com/events, with Healthcare Appreciation Night (sold out!) and Sparks Night on Friday, Kings Night on Saturday and Cuba Day on Sunday.

The series will also mark MLB’s inaugural Players Weekend, which will include the players wearing colorful, non-traditional uniforms featuring alternate designs inspired by youth league uniforms.

Players will have nicknames placed on the back of the jerseys, and have the opportunity to wear and use uniquely colored cleats, bats and other equipment.

Additionally, during Players Weekend, the right sleeve of each player’s jersey will feature a patch with a blank space for him to write the name of a person or organization that was instrumental to his development.

The patch features a new logo that shows a progression of five players increasing in size to demonstrate the process of a player’s path from Little League and youth leagues to Major League Baseball.

The Dodgers will also celebrate their ninth annual ThinkCure! Weekend during Saturday’s and Sunday’s games, when the team and its fans can help support and raise awareness of City of Hope’s efforts to find new lifesaving treatments and cures for cancer patients. To date, ThinkCure! has raised more than $2 million to help support research grants, setting the stage for medical breakthroughs.
