[KHTS] – A 37-year-old Palmdale man sustained fatal injuries Saturday when apparent driver fatigue resulted in a single-vehicle collision north of Agua Dulce Canyon Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The deceased was identified as Eduardo Hernandez and he was killed after the front end of his vehicle struck a hillside and came to rest in a concrete culvert to the right of the northbound State Road 14, according to Sergeant P. Haggard of the California Highway Patrol.
Haggard said a CHP officer was already at the scene prior to the crash.
“An officer was on a traffic stop on the right shoulder,” Haggard said “ … [he] heard a loud impact south of his location and that’s when he observed a ‘99 Toyota Camry with major front end damage coming to rest in a concrete culvert just east of his patrol vehicle.”
The collision appears to be a result of driver fatigue, Haggard said.
Haggard said the exact cause of the incident is still under investigation, but attributed the collision to an unsafe turning movement on a freeway.
The driver’s lane and speed prior to the collision are unknown, Haggard said.
