1921 - William S. Hart (57) marries actress Winifred Westover (23) [story]
Bill and Winifred Hart

Family, friends and former classmates are mourning the two men killed in a head-on traffic collision in Valencia early Tuesday morning.

At approximately 12:10 a.m., a male driver, age 34, was traveling northbound on McBean Parkway near Decoro Drive at a high rate of speed when his BMW hit a tree and careened into oncoming traffic, according to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

The BMW went head-on into a Honda Accord driven by an 18-year-old male.

Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.

It is unknown if alcohol was a factor.

On Tuesday afternoon, the L.A. County Coroner identified the 34-year-old as Joel Thomas Godfrey and the 18-year-old as Collin Charles Gore.

According to social media reports, Gore recently graduated from Hart High School in Newhall, where he was an honor student, active in ASB and on the swim team. He planned to attend San Diego State University starting in the fall.

Friends and classmates gathered at Hart High Tuesday night in a candlelight vigil to share their grief and console Gore’s family.

The investigation is ongoing. If anyone has information, please contact Traffic Investigator Maag at the SCV Sheriff’s Station, 661-255-1121.

  1. Speed KILLS!!!! SLOW DOWN!!!!

  2. Kelly R Axen says:

That was the worst accident I’ve ever had to pass. The selfishness of one man killed a young man who was ready to start his life after high school. :(

    • Teresa Howell says:

Yes, I Joel made several bad choices that cannot be corrected. He chose to speed. He killed an innocent 18 year old man-his future is gone, taken away. And now his wife is in labor giving birth to their first child that will never know her father-she’ll never know her father arms and his voice when he whispered “I love you”. A lot of heartache and devastation came out of one choice. Those choices last a lifetime and then some.

  3. It was a horrifying accident. We’re still in shock. Such a waste of life. Prayers are flooding towards the families.

  4. Bri Michelle says:

People need to slow down. So incredibly sad.

  5. This is so sad. Why is everyone in such a hurry. Prayers for all the families. ?

  6. A parents worst nightmare. I don’t know how You ever get rid of the anger that someone’s stupidity and recklessness took away your World! I have 4 boys and this is my biggest fear. I am so deeply saddened for this family.

  7. So very tragic. I did not know either of these two men but I beg people not to make judgements before all the facts are in and, even when they are, to remember that there are two families out there suffering terribly. Even if the BMW driver was grossly negligent in his actions, his family should not be punished by such negative comments. GOLDEN RULE.

    • Lucy Romero says:

Yes I agree!! Not fair that the family has to read all this nasty comments.

    • Cass Lopez says:

I agree, being someone who just lost her mother to a tragic accident as well, regardless of “how” it happened or “why”, there is a family mourning the loss of their loved one and it is a terrible pain that you never truly will understand until it happens to you. ? People said all kinds of horrible things when my mother passed and it was heart wrenching

    • Lucy Romero says:

Cass ?? I love you girl!

    • Stephanie Shaffer says:

No matter the choice or the mistake that was made, both families are suffering tremendously. Rude comments do not change the situation. Do you not think that Joel’s family is devistated by their loss? And just as devistated that another life was taken? Thank you to the people who are showing compassion to both families.

  8. Condolences to the families. This will make me slow down that is for sure.

  9. My deepest condolences go out to his family ??

  10. Lucy Romero says:

My condolences to both families. I’m so so sorry :'(

  11. Sending prayers from all of us❤️??

  12. Just a horrible sad tragedy. As a mom I hope to never ever have to go through that. Prayers of love and strength sent to the families.

  13. Cass Lopez says:

So very terrible and to both families, I am so terribly sorry for your loss if your loved one. This is a pain that is so hard to endure and only God, prayers and the helpful hands of friends and family has been able to help me since I lost my mother in May. I know the pain and I will be praying for both families during the very tragic and sad time in their lives ❤?? It won’t be easy, and don’t be afraid to lean on others, but you will be OK eventually. Much love. ❤???

  14. Very tragic. My heart goes out to both family.

  15. Willy Jay says:

    Street Racing Kills

  16. Any gofundme accounts to help ?

  17. So tragic and avoidable ? praying for the families left behind to pick up the pieces

  18. Jonell Root says:

Collin was like a son to us and he will be missed terribly♡ Such a tragedy this is. Miss you Angel♡
