[KHTS] – Santa Clarita Valley Boy Scout James Cornwall is confronting the issue of missing children by gathering all of the necessary safety information.

A member of the Boy Scouts of America Troop 587, Cornwall will be holding a community outreach program for parents who are concerned about their child’s safety.

A booth will be set up next to the merry go round at the Westfield Valencia Town Center Feb. 21 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Parents are welcome to bring their children and learn about the avenues they can take just in case something does happen to their child.

Provided will be information and brochures with child safety tips.

Also free child identification cards and safety kit will be given out.

The identification card will include the child’s fingerprint, photo, height and weight.

“The identification card is important because if their child goes missing they can go to a file cabinet and have all the information on a card,” said John Cornwall, father of James Cornwall, Boy Scout who organized the event. “It will provide a quicker response when trying to locate a child.”

James is doing this event as part of his Eagle Scout Service Project.

The Boy Scouts are suppose to demonstrate leadership while performing a project that benefits the community.
