Sheriff’s Homicide detectives are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a 27-year-old female inmate Saturday at approximately 12:08 p.m. in the jail at Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, according to a press release from the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Headquarters Bureau.
Detectives have learned that while conducting a security check of the station jail, Santa Clarita Valley Station personnel found Inmate Jenna Coleman, who was lying on her bed in her cell, unresponsive, according to the release.
Los Angeles County Fire Rescue Paramedics responded and pronounced Coleman dead, according to the release.
Coleman was arrested on Thursday by Santa Clarita deputies for Possession of a Controlled Substance, and was being held in lieu of $10,000 bail, according to the release.
The cause of death is not yet known and will be determined by Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office personnel.
No further information is being released at this time.
Whenever the death of an inmate occurs in the Los Angeles County jail system, multiple independent investigations immediately begin at the scene, including separate investigations by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau, Sheriff’s Internal Affairs Bureau, and Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office, according to the release.
Justice System Integrity Division personnel from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office intend to attend the autopsy, according to the release.
Once the investigations are concluded, every aspect of the death is reviewed by the Sheriff’s Executive Death Review Committee, according to the release.
