[NWS] – Lingering showers from the tail end of the most recent storm system will affect the mountains of Ventura and Los Angeles counties and portions of the Antelope Valley through Thursday evening. Snow levels will be around 4,000 feet, with another inch of accumulation possible above 4,500 feet.
The next cold front will push into San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties late Friday morning or early afternoon with an increasing chance of rain. The rain will then spread southeast into Ventura and Los Angeles counties Friday afternoon and Friday evening. It looks like this will be a fast-moving system, as the rain should end by early Saturday morning.
Snow levels are forecast to drop to 3,000 to 4,000 feet Friday night. There could be an inch or two of snow across the Interstate 5 corridor between Gorman and the Grapevine Friday night, which may affect travel over the Grapevine.
Rainfall totals expected for the Friday afternoon through early Saturday morning storm should generally range between 0.10 and 0.25 inches, except up to a half inch along the south-facing slopes of Ventura and Los Angeles counties.
Potential impacts with this next storm include snowfall and dense fog across mountain roadways Friday night into early Saturday morning, with wintry driving conditions especially above 3,500 feet. At lower elevations, there will be the potential for local ponding of water in low-lying areas, especially in areas where drains have not been cleared.
THe combination of wet snow and low temperatures in the mountains could also create a dangerous situation for campers and outdoor enthusiasts who are not prepared for the change in weather conditions.
An unsettled weather pattern will continue into early next week and possibly through much of next week as a series of storms could affect the forecast area.
