On Monday, April 16, law enforcement officials conducted a further search operation in and around the Eel River in Leggett, California, in hopes of finding the last member of the Thottapilly family.
At approximately 4 p.m., water searchers located the body of a juvenile male submerged in the Eel River approximately six miles north of the reported crash site (downstream).
Once the body was recovered, it was identified as being Siddhant Thottapilly, the remaining missing member of the Thottapilly family.
An autopsy is expected to be performed this week as part of the Coroner’s investigation into the incident.
The family was on a road trip from Portland to San Jose, traveling in their maroon 2016 Honda Pilot SUV, when the vehicle was reportedly seen plunging off of Highway 101 down an embankment into the rain-swollen Eel River on April 6.
The Thottapillys were reported missing by other family members on April 8, when search teams began looking.
On Sunday, April 15, the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office Coroner’s Division was able to identify the adult female recovered from the Eel River on Friday, April 13, as being the mother, Soumya Thottapilly.
Also on Sunday, searchers subsequently recovered the bodies of the father, Sandeep Thottapilly and daughther, Saachi Thottapilly, from inside the vehicle.
