The city of Santa Clarita invites the community to celebrate the groundbreaking of Via Princessa Park on Thursday, Jan. 22, at 10 a.m.
The ceremony will take place in the parking lot of the Via Princessa Metrolink Station at 19201 Via Princessa, Santa Clarita, CA 91321. Via Princessa Park will be located just beyond the railroad tracks and will become a vibrant, new destination for sports, play and community gathering, expanding Santa Clarita’s growing network of parks and recreational spaces. Designed to serve residents of all ages, the park will provide enhanced connectivity and access to outdoor recreation.
When complete, Via Princessa Park will feature four multi-sport fields with sports field lighting, four pickleball courts and a pedestrian tunnel beneath the Metrolink tracks, creating a safe and convenient connection to the park. Additional parking will also be added to improve accessibility. Families will enjoy a shaded, nature-themed playground inspired by the nearby Santa Clara River. The playground will include a treehouse element overlooking an aquatic-inspired play structure, along with log scrambles, native tree shade, stormwater planters and a critter scavenger hunt that encourages imaginative play and exploration. An entry gathering plaza with shade will welcome visitors and provide a comfortable space for families, friends and neighbors to meet and connect.
The park will also incorporate a stormwater infiltration system, designed to capture and treat stormwater on site, allowing it to naturally percolate into the ground. This system will help reduce runoff, improve water quality, support groundwater recharge and protect the Santa Clara River.
Funding for Via Princessa Park has been provided through multiple local, state and federal partners, including the Safe, Clean Water Program (Measure W), Los Angeles County Regional Park and Open Space District (Proposition A), the Integrated Regional Water Management Grant Program (Proposition 1) and the Land and Water Conservation Fund.
