Oak Hills Educational Foundation and Oak Hills PTA will be hosting their annual science fair at Oak Hills School in Valencia in the form of an exciting Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Expo event Jan. 23rd-26th.
STEM allows young scientists to ask exciting questions (of their choice) relating to computers, engineering and design, math, chemistry, physics or life sciences.
Over 400 Oak Hills scientists in grades K-6th will take part in background research, executing a project and presenting their work in the form of a poster at the school’s STEM Expo.
The goal of Oak Hills STEM Expo is to encourage its students to engage in scientific investigation and provide them with the opportunity to articulate their process, results and conclusions. Posters will be evaluated by volunteer judges from the community and students in 3rd-6th grades will also be interviewed.
The Oak Hills STEM Expo will culminate with a family-friendly event on Friday Jan. 26th in the school’s MPR from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Food will be available for purchase and the student scientists will be invited to stand in front of their posters and answer questions as friends, parents, teachers and staff members view the posters. The evening will conclude with a slideshow and an Awards Ceremony announcing the top-place projects from each grade level.
The top-place projects from 6th grade may be eligible to advance to the 2018 Los Angeles County Science and Engineering Fair held every year in Pasadena in March.
The advantages provided by a STEM-rich education are clear, and Oak Hills believes engaging students in this type of critical thinking at the elementary level will lead to a bright future for our young Coyote scientists.
Oak Hills Elementary School is located at 26730 Old Rock Road, Valencia, 91381.
