The San Jose Giants rallied late and pulled away for an 11-7 victory over the Lancaster JetHawks in a back-and-forth game on Wednesday night at The Hangar.
The Giants opened the scoring with a three-run second inning. Dillon Dobson snapped a 1-for-16 skid with a two-run home run. Daniel Carbonell later delivered an RBI single.
The JetHawks were still trailing 3-0 and had just two hits when they came up in the fifth inning against San Jose starter Matt Solter. Lancaster scored four times to take the lead. Chris Rabago plated the first run with an RBI single and Scott Burcham followed with a two-run homer, his second of the season. Sam Hilliard brought home the final run of the frame with a sacrifice fly.
San Jose re-took the lead with a pair of runs in the sixth. With two out, Jonah Arenado singled. Daniel Carbonell was the next batter and hit a high fly ball to right that Hilliard lost in the lights. It turned into an RBI double. After a walk to Jalen Miller, Ryan Howard came through with an RBI single.
In the bottom of the sixth, the momentum swung back to the JetHawks when they put up three runs to take a 7-5 lead. Four consecutive bloop singles sparked the rally. Burcham, Wes Rogers, and Brendan Rodgers each picked up a run batted in. Burcham finished with three RBI in the game.
San Jose scored the final six runs of the game. The Giants put up two in the seventh, three in the eighth, and one in the ninth. Gio Brusa homered for the second time in as many nights. His two-out, two-run shot tied the game in the seventh. Bryan Reynolds added a two-run blast of his own in the eighth.
Will LaMarche (1-0) picked up the win in relief for San Jose. Carlos Polanco (2-3) suffered the loss out of the bullpen for the JetHawks.
The Giants out-hit the JetHawks 20-12.
The three-game series concludes on Thursday night at The Hangar with the rubber game. Right-hander Peter Lambert (3-3) will start for Lancaster against left-hander Matt Krook (0-6). First pitch is 6:35 p.m.
