Sam Hilliard delivered a game-tying double in the ninth inning, but for the second straight day, the Lake Elsinore Storm won in walk-off fashion, 7-6, in 10 innings on Sunday afternoon at The Diamond.

Hilliard’s double came with one out in the ninth inning. He hit a high fly ball over the head of Yuniet Flores in left field to allow Yonathan Daza to score from first base. Hilliard was eventually left at third base, keeping the score tied heading into the bottom of the ninth.

Reliever Alexander Guillen (0-3) was able to pitch around a leadoff single in the inning to push the game into extra innings, but he allowed a leadoff double in the bottom of the 10th that would eventually doom the JetHawks (7-10). With Javier Guerra at second base and two outs, Flores lifted a fly ball to deep left-center field. The ball dropped between Wes Rogers and Forrest Wall to allow the winning run to score.

Lake Elsinore (7-10) took two of three from the JetHawks in their first matchup of the season.

Lancaster had taken in early lead with aggressive base-running and timely hitting early in the game. The club stole six bases in the first four innings and scored runs on a Wilson Soriano squeeze-bunt and a Rogers RBI-single. The JetHawks totaled seven stolen bases in the game, a new season-high.

The Storm took the lead with four runs in the fifth inning, three of which scored against starter Colin Welmon. The right-hander allowed three runs on five hits over 4.1 innings. He recorded season-highs with five strikeouts and three walks.

The JetHawks rallied for three in the seventh to retake the lead. Brian Mundell and Hilliard recorded RBIs in the frame and Mundell scored on a wild pitch to put Lancaster ahead. Edwin Moreno came right back with a two-run double in the bottom of the inning put the Storm up, 6-5.

Lancaster continues its seven-game road trip with the opening game of a four-game series on Monday night at Banner Island Ballpark in Stockton. Peter Lambert will pitch and against Ports starter Brett Graves. First pitch is 7:10 p.m.
