LANCASTER – Max George hit a pair of home runs and Brandon Gold threw five shutout innings Tuesday night, as the JetHawks beat the University of Antelope Valley, 9-1, in an exhibition contest at The Hangar.
Brandon Gold, who returns to Lancaster after 12 starts for the JetHawks in 2017, got the ball in Tuesday’s exhibition. The right-hander did not allow a run in five innings of work.
The power came later for Lancaster, as Max George went deep in his last two at-bats of the night. The infielder hit the first home run of the game in the sixth, and he capped off the scoring for the JetHawks with another blast in the eighth inning.
Lancaster scored in five of eight innings, and the JetHawks got RBIs from five different players in the contest. Along with George, Tyler Nevin and Vince Fernandez each drove in a pair.
Kenny Oakley, Alexander Guillen, Salvador Justo and Bryan Baker each pitched an inning in relief.
The 2018 season gets underway Thursday night with a rematch of last year’s California League Championship Series. The JetHawks take on Modesto at the Hangar to kick off the regular season. Rico Garcia is slated to start the opener. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm.
