Craig Schlitter tossed six strong innings and Brendan Rodgers picked up three hits to lead the JetHawks over the Stockton Ports, 7-2, on Friday night at The Hangar in the series opener.

Rodgers extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a pair of doubles, a single, and two RBI. The streak is the longest by any JetHawk this season. He is hitting .488 (20-for-41) during the streak. In just 17 games this season, Rodgers now has nine doubles, two homers, and 16 RBI. His batting average is .400.

Schlitter (5-0) picked up the victory and now leads the California League in wins. The right-hander allowed one run on four hits. He walked three and struck out two. It was his sixth straight quality start. In six of seven starts this season, Schlitter has allowed one run. His ERA now sits at 1.88.

Stockton opened the scoring with a single run in the third inning. Santiago Chavez led off with a double and two batters later Eli White delivered an RBI triple to bring him home.

It remained 1-0 until the bottom of the fifth, when the JetHawks finally broke through against Stockton starter A.J. Puk (1-4). Chris Rabago walked with one out. Then, with two out, Garrett Hampson came through with an RBI double to the opposite field in right to tie the game. Rodgers followed with an RBI double of his own to give the JetHawks a lead they would not relinquish. Hampson and Rodgers, the top two hitters in the order, combined to record five of Lancaster’s eight hits in the contest. They also drove in four of the seven runs and scored three of the seven.

After Schlitter departed, Chris Iriart led off the seventh for Stockton with a solo homer against JetHawks reliever Marc Magliaro, who did not make it out of the inning. Max Schuh was summoned from the bullpen with two on and one out. The left-hander retired both hitters he faced to strand the runners in scoring position and preserve the lead.

The JetHawks added four runs of insurance in the bottom of the seventh, as eight men came to the plate. Hampson delivered his second RBI double of the game. Rodgers had an RBI single and Yonathan Daza brought home a run on a sacrifice-fly.

Alexander Guillen pitched a pair of shutout innings to close out the game for the JetHawks. He struck out five.

Puk took the loss for Stockton. The A’s top pitching prospect allowed two runs on six hits in five innings. He struck out seven and walked one. The Ports stranded 12 base runners and went 1-for-19 with runners in scoring position.

The four-game series continues on Saturday night at The Hangar. Trey Killian (4-0) will start for Lancaster against A.J. Puk (1-3). First pitch is 6:35 p.m.
