The Master’s College women’s track & field program deepens its roster with the recent signing of Emily Hess.

“When I met the coaches, Zach and Amie Schroeder, I was immediately impressed with their dedication to the Lord and to their athletes,” commented Hess. “It was obvious that the team was all about Christ and I was drawn to the tight-knit community and team dynamics. I wasn’t sure if I wanted or was even capable of becoming a college athlete, but the Schroeder’s and one of my coaches really encouraged me to rise to this challenge.”

Hess enters her time at TMC after competing at the American School of Kuwait where she earned JV Scholar Athlete of the Year, JV MVP honors for track & field, placed first in the triple jump and the 4×400-meter relay as a sophomore, placed second in the 4×100-meter relay as a sophomore, placed first in the varsity 200-meters as a junior, and was a captain for the girls’ varsity volleyball and track teams in her senior year.

Academically, Hess earned the Earth Science Top Student Award in the 9th grade, the Ceramics Top Student Award in the 10th grade, the Top Student Award for Spanish in the 11th grade, and was named to the High Honor Roll all four years of high school.

Hess, whose older brother, Joseph, currently competes for TMC’s men’s soccer team, further commented on her excitement to be a Lady Mustang by saying, “…TMC was the kind of Christian college that I was looking for, and my brother’s experience at TMC has only confirmed my desire to go and join him there. I know that TMC will be a great fit for me and my goal of following Christ in the years to come.”

Even before competing as a Lady Mustang, Hess has her eyes set on a number of collegiate goals.

“First of all, I hope to be able to contribute and be an asset to TMC’s track & field team,” said Hess. “As I train, I want to keep improving and to reach my full potential as a runner. I hope to be a part of helping the Lady Mustangs win a GSAC track & field championship, and by the time I’m a senior, I want to qualify for the NAIA Track & Field National Championships.”

Affirming Hess’ goals, TMC head coach Zach Schroeder said, “Emily is part of our continued expansion into track & field.  Although we are in the beginning stages of building our track-specific roster, we feel Emily will help us lay the foundation for generations of athletes to come. She comes from a small program where she is the captain of her team. My prayer is that God uses her background to help us build something special in the years to come.  I’m looking forward to seeing Emily run new personal records in the sprints as a Lady Mustang.”

Looking to a strong future the Lady Mustangs will be graduating only one senior and returning a slew of veterans.
