RANCHO CUCAMONGA – The Lancaster JetHawks fell to the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 6-4 thanks to two late home runs on Saturday night at LoanMart Field.
Zach Reks hit a solo home run to tie the game, 4-4, in the seventh inning before Ibandel Isabel delivered a two-run go-ahead home run in the eighth inning. Reliever Carlos Polanco (3-5) surrendered both home runs and took the loss.
Brandon Gold made his seventh start for the JetHawks (61-52, 23-20) and delivered his sixth-consecutive quality start. The right-hander allowed three runs (two earned) on eight hits over six innings. He struck out four and walked two. He left the game with a 4-3 lead.
Gold’s two walks marked a new season-high with Lancaster and just the second time he’s walked more than one batter in a game during his professional career. Gold has now issued just four walks in 46.0 Cal League innings.
Lancaster opened up a 3-0 lead in the third inning. Garrett Hampson drove home the first run of the game with a triple. The three-base-hit was his ninth of the season to tie him for the league lead. Yonathan Daza promptly brought Hampson to the plate with a single and later scored on a Hamlet Marte double.
The Quakes (63-50, 27-16) got on the board with an unearned run in the bottom of the third and picked up another on an Ariel Sandoval solo home run.
The JetHawks picked up another run in the sixth when Marte scored on a double play ground ball, but Rancho Cucamonga got run back quickly with Sandoval’s second home run of the game, a solo shot in the bottom of the same inning.
Here’s the box score.
Lancaster attempted to take three of four in the series with a victory in Sunday’s finale at LoanMart Field.
