With basketball season right around the corner and the postseason approaching for fall sports, CSUN Athletics has announced the launch of the CSUN, CA brand campaign (read as “CSUN, California”). The identity and messaging were announced on the Matadors’ official website, www.GoMatadors.com, with a video statement from Athletic Director Dr. Brandon Martin.
“CSUN Athletics is a driving force on this campus, and CSUN is the engine of the San Fernando Valley,” explains Martin. “It is our students, our alumni and our faculty and staff that set the high standard for California. Join CSUN Athletics as we proudly represent CSUN, California. We are stronger together and we are one team with one goal; we are one Matador.”
CSUN, CA will be represented by a logo that places the Matadors’ secondary logo, a Matador with a cape, within the outline of the state of California. The emblem and campaign represent that CSUN is the center of it all.
“CSUN Athletics has an incredibly strong presence in the Valley, Southern California and across the state,” said Martin. “With dedicated support from our fans, we’re excited to tell our story on a broad basis through the CSUN, CA campaign, reaching recruits, alumni and donors.”
The social media component of the CSUN, CA campaign uses the hashtag #OneMatador to signify that all CSUN Athletics Division I programs and student-athletes are united as one. Nineteen sport programs together make one team with one goal as one Matador striving towards comprehensive excellence.
“Throughout my career, I’ve represented numerous brands and ideas, and I understand how important it is to play for a brand you believe in,” said Head Men’s Basketball Coach Reggie Theus. “CSUN student-athletes are proud to represent the Matadors and the CSUN, CA campaign, because we really are stronger together as #OneMatador. We’re excited to represent the Matadors in Southern California and beyond this season.”
The CSUN, CA brand identity can be seen across campus, in large-scale signage at competition venues and on T-shirts worn by student-athletes. It has also been used on promotional giveaways for fans, including on key chains, water bottles, mobile phone fans and T-shirts. Upcoming basketball theme nights will include CSUN, CA promotional giveaways as well.
