In just a few short weeks runners will once again take to the streets for the Santa Clarita Marathon, presented by Parkway Motorcars, which is scheduled for Sunday, November 5, 2017.
The event, currently in its 22nd year, will also feature a Half Marathon, 5K run, Mayor’s Walk and a Kid K fun run on the same day.
The weekend will begin on Saturday, November 4 at the Santa Clarita Health and Fitness Expo, presented by Boston Scientific.
At the expo guests can connect with health and fitness vendors and runners can pick up their bibs and their official race shirt. The expo will take place at the Westfield Valencia Town Center, at 24320 Town Center Drive, Valencia 91355, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The following morning, runners from near and far will take to the streets of Santa Clarita for their selected race. The Marathon, Half Marathon, 5K, Kid K and Mayor’s Walk will begin on McBean Parkway, just south of Town Center Drive, and will finish on Theater Drive, south of Magic Mountain Parkway at the Westfield Valencia Town Center.
The Final Mile Challenge, presented by Kaiser Permanente, will begin at 1 p.m. The Final Mile Challenge is an initiative that invites local elementary school students to complete 25 miles over the course of the school year leading up to race day, when participants will run the final 1.2 miles to receive their medal. Participating schools in the 2017 Final Mile Challenge are North Park Elementary, Bridgeport Elementary, Mountainview Elementary, Charles Helmers Elementary and Emblem Academy.
Online registration for races is ongoing until Sunday, October 29, while in-person registration will be available during the Health and Fitness Expo only. Runners will NOT be able to register the morning of the race.
The city of Santa Clarita is seeking volunteers for race day, as well as course monitors, who will be responsible for directing runners along the route and watching for any safety or medical issues that may arise.
The deadline to register as a volunteer is Sunday, October 22, which can be accomplished online at SantaClaritaVolunteers.com.
The public is encouraged to attend the free Health and Fitness Expo and cheer on runners at various points along the course the next day. Street closures and times will be announced once they are confirmed.
In the meantime, Santa Clarita residents can familiarize themselves with course maps online.
