The city of Santa Clarita and SCV Veterans Memorial, Inc. invite the public to attend a special ceremony unveiling the new Fallen Warriors Monument at Veterans Historical Plaza in Newhall on Wednesday, November 8 starting at 10 a.m.
The ceremony at 24275 Walnut Street will feature a tribute to active and retired military members, as well as a reading of the names of Santa Clarita residents who have perished in war.
Santa Clarita Mayor Cameron Smyth will host the event and will be joined in addressing the crowd by former City Councilman, current State Assemblyman and Gold Star father Dante Acosta, as well as Vietnam War Veteran and SCV Veterans Memorial, Inc. President Bill Reynolds.
Retired U.S. Army Chaplain Colonel Amos Clemmons, a Vietnam War veteran, will deliver the invocation and Alesia Humphries and Steve Dole will sing a military tribute.
The Ronald Reagan Marine Corps League of Simi Valley will present the colors and perform a 21-gun salute after the ceremony.
Following a short speaking program, the Fallen Warriors Monument will be officially unveiled to the public by local Gold Star families. A veteran from each era – WWII, Korean War, Vietnam War, Iraq/Afghan War – will then read the names of the Fallen Warriors from their respective war.
The Fallen Warriors Monument is the result of a longtime collaboration between SCV Veterans Memorial, Inc. and the city of Santa Clarita to honor all known and unknown Santa Clarita Valley residents who have perished in war since World War I.
