There’s a sense of freedom when walking in the cool of the morning. Your sense of smell is magnified with the aroma of freshly cut grass. The mixture of birds chirping different melodies is music to your ears. The familiar sound of the dogs barking or kids walking with their parents in the distance makes your walk all the more enjoyable.  This is a way of connecting with your community in a way that being in a car cannot.

Oct. 5  is national walk or bike to school day. We want you to get out and enjoy the thrill of walking or riding a bike to school.  Not only will you start your day off on the right foot; there are also several health benefits from being active.  The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommends that children and adolescents get one hour or more of physical activity each day. Walking or bicycling to school enables children to get the regular physical activity requ ired to establish healthy habits that will last a lifetime.  Regular activity helps maintain proper weight, helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, and reduces the risk of being diagnosed with type II diabetes.

The California Highway Patrol, along with Safe Moves, and our local law enforcement partners encourage you to make a healthy habit to walk regularly.
