Calling all quilters, knitters, crocheters, or fleece-crafters! Join together with other local “blanketeers” to make hand-made blankets for local children in need. Give emotional support with a sentimental hand made blanket to children who are suffering in hospitals, domestically abused, and military backgrounds. Come hear the story behind every blanket that a child and their family has received. Help make a handmade hug because sometimes that, is all a child needs when struggling.
Project Linus is a non-profit organization that provides love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children in need who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers.”
Project Linus has delivered over 6,559,984 blankets since 1995 and you can help make that number grow on October 7th. Join the Santa Clarita Valley, Antelope Valley, Sylmar, & Los Angeles County chapter at Golden Valley High School in the gym for an entire fun filled day.
Starting from 10am-9pm, Academy of the Canyons will be hosting Make a Blanket Day for all families, friends, and students that want to help make a blanket for children, no prior experience needed. The volunteers will be provided with 3 different types of food trucks, music, and help from experienced blanketeers.
This year’s Make a Blanket Day is very important to the families who currently live in shelters. As the colder months approaches us, we hope to give everyone a blanket to keep themselves warm as some shelters are in desperate need for more. Since we typically make around 600 to 700 blankets with this event, we really would love and appreciate if more people can come this important event. Please keep in mind that every last blanket matters to a family or just one child who may not have the same necessities as us.
