1875 - John F. Powell, an Irish immigrant, becomes Justice of the Peace [story]
John F. Powell

Screen Shot 2015-05-15 at 3.08.14 PM[KHTS] – A Santa Clarita couple who runs a home for “dependent adults” is accused of harming one of those clients, Sheriff’s Station officials said Friday.

Robert Jenkins, 59, and his wife Prissie Jenkins, 55, run the Jenkins Group Home for “dependent adults,” located on the 20300 block of Delight Street, Canyon Country, said Lt. Brenda Cambra of the Sheriff’s Station’s Detective Bureau.

“A dependent adult alleged that she was hit by her caretaker,” said Cambra. “Deputies investigated and found that the victim had physical evidence of an assault — a couple of bruises.”

The couple was arrested at the care facility on suspicion of harming an adult dependent, which is a felony, Wed., May 13 at about 5:30 p.m., said Cambra.

The other five “dependent adults,” were in “good health,” and were placed elsewhere, Cambra said. Bail for each of the suspects was set at $50,000, and they were released on bond Thursday.

The case is still under investigation and deputies have notified Los Angeles County Adult Protective Services, Cambra said.

  1. And this is why I refuse to put my grandma in a home. Saves her from crap like this and me the jail time. People are heartless.

  2. Was this home a group living home for independent special needs adults or a independent living for seniors?

  3. H. zavala says:

my daughter has been living in the home over 10 yrs and I have never seen any abuse of any kind my daughter would have told us if she had seen any hitting of any kind. You can not beleive every thing in the news

  4. Janet Hedke says:

My daughter is one of the independent special needs adults in this home. The owners are gentle, loving, and encouraging. There is more to this story and I encourage people not to rush to judgment. I would not hesitate to return my daughter to this home after this has been cleared up.

  5. Janet Hedke says:

Our daughter is one of the residents of this home and we have found the owners to be kind, gentle and compassionate. I cannot fathom a situation where they would hurt one of these ladies. There are two sides to this story and I encourage everyone to be fair and not rush to judgment.

  6. Missy Dee are these the people you used to work for??

How about we talk about how when this couple was arrested how the “Los Angeles County Sheriff Department” treated them. First they approached their son who happened to be cleaning out his car when they asked him trick questions to get the “incriminating” process going. Secondly when the couple pulled up they were informed they were just asking some questions and then after they were done questioning the couple they Lied to them and told them they needed them to come to the police car down the street to sign some papers when actually they walked them to the car to arrest them. But wait it gets better. When they handcuffed their son asked why they were being arrested and the officers responded “they are not being arrested and stay where you are”. When the handcuffs were placed on the male caregiver their son immediately informed the officer that his dad has a severe case of anxiety and claustrophobia. The officers did not care and instead of listening to the son they let the male caregiver pass out and fall on the ground. When the son begged and pleaded with the officers to at least loosen the handcuffs the male officer in so many words said he was faking and would be fine. Now remind you the male caregiver was partially laying on the sidewalk and his head was laying in the street gutter. So after on going arguing with officer the son called 911 in which he received a nasty response from the 911 operator that the officers were dealing with him and to deal with the officers on scene. The male officer eventually called for paramedics in which he informed them he had a male who had just been arrested and un so many words is faking to pass out or what ever he said. So during the time it took the pmeds and ambulance to arrive a whole bunch of police officers came flying down the street all got out the car and was laughing and making jokes about the situation while the male caregiver was still on the ground. Now during this process should i mention how the had the female caregiver locked inside of a hot police car with all the windows rolled up and then made her get out the car with all the neighbors outside and walk donw to another police car. So back to the male caregiver . The EMT picked the male caregiver up off the ground and put him on a stretcher (still non responsive) and when his son tried to check on him the officers wouldn’t let him and adv he’s fine, he’s with EMT and paramedics. So after they take Mr. Jenkins off to the hospital and Mrs. Jenkins to the sheriff station the officers that were at the house came in and said they needed to examine every one in the house. The female officer went to each of the other ladies and took their clothes to check for bruises. Meanwhile all the other male officers were in and out of the house as if it were some social gathering, sitting on computer desks, sitting on the arms of the sofa, etc. Later on when the caregivers’ son asked why his parents were arrested he was told they had probable cause.

Now my question to the sheriffs and to who ever else is this. If they were “abusing” this young lady why would they send her to school every day to risk getting caught? Why did this young lady want the Jenkins to take her to Special Olympic games and practices and not her own family.

Now in my opinion that’s worth making headline news just as much as the above topic.

It’s unfortunate. I know the girl who this happened to

  11. Jeanne says:

Leaving someone in the car with the windows rolled up is a favorite of the Sheriffs out here. I had a teenager who was arrested 5 years ago for a curfew violation.

First they ground his face into the ground with their knee on his head while handcuffing him. Then local Sheriff’s put him in the car with the heater running and left him there for 20 minutes while they talked outside the car. They could see the sweat running off his face and just laughed about it. He had to start hitting his head on the window before they turned the heater off.

When they start showing respect for the community they are supposed to be helping then they might start getting the support and respect that the good Sheriffs deserve.

I have said before that I think it would help if the Sheriffs did not train in the jails before patrolling our streets.
