[KHTS] – In recognition of National Consumer Protection Month, U.S. Postal Service officials are welcoming Santa Clarita Valley residents to use their shredders to protect sensitive information.
The “free shred event” Thursday in Santa Clarita is to offer residents a chance for “spring cleaning and clearing out desk drawers and file cabinets,” according to a USPS news release.
“Members of the public can bring up to two banker boxes or three grocery bags of paper documents to be securely shredded and recycled at no charge,” according to U.S. Postal Service officials. “Postal Inspectors will also be on hand to provide information on protecting oneself from fraud and theft.”
National Consumer Protection Month CPW is a national program led by the Federal Trade Commission to draw attention to issues and recommendations that help customers become smarter consumers of products, materials and services, and improve their knowledge of how to combat fraud of any type.
Santa Clarita is also installing a new postmaster Friday at the Valencia office, which is located at 1 p.m. at 24355 Creekside Road.
Gabriel Magdaleno, 29, of Valencia, said he was “honored” to have the new USPS responsibility at what he acknowledged was relatively young age for his position.
The free shredding is only being offered at the U.S. Post Office facility on 28201 Franklin Parkway in Santa Clarita.
