Public safety and economic vitality are strongly connected, and the Valley Industry Association will explore those connections with a panel of special guest speakers at the VIA November luncheon.
“Investing in Future Employees Through Community Safety Programs” will be the focus of the event scheduled 11:30 a.m. Nov. 20 at the Valencia Country Club, 27330 Tourney Road, Valencia.
“We’re planning an energetic and informative discussion of crime, safety and community investment,” said VIA CEO/President Kathy Norris. “Public safety issues affect everyone in the community, and businesses are no exception.”
Scheduled highlights include:
• What are current crime and safety issues of which business owners need to be aware in the Santa Clarita Valley? How do you protect yourself? Sheriff’s Capt. Paul Becker, of the SCV Sheriff’s Station, will answer these questions.
• What are some of the challenges facing local youth, and how can business owners invest in their lives and help shape them into strong employees and community members? John March, of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Youth Foundation, will discuss the organization’s various programs and opportunities for local business leaders to be involved.
• Luncheon attendees will also hear firsthand from Ken Wiseman, of AMS, who regularly employs at-risk youths, giving them a chance to succeed.
Reservations are required. Those who reserve by Thursday, November 8th pay just $35, reservations made November 9-15, pay $45. After November 15th, pay $50 (if seats are available) Non-members pay $50. Reservations can be made by calling the VIA office at (661) 294-8088, or through the VIA website: https://www.via.org/Calendar/EventDetails.aspx?id=218
“Businesses are a foundational element of the Santa Clarita Valley,” Norris said. “We’re sure business leaders will find this to be an exciting opportunity to hear how you can perpetuate safety, and invest in local youths – our future community and business leaders.”
In addition to the discussion of public safety, the luncheon will include a spotlight presentation from Poole & Shaffery, LLP. Representatives from the full-service business and employment law firm will provide a brief overview of the firm and its areas of practice, and will provide attendees with several helpful tools, including updated employment law and corporation checklists.
The luncheon’s sponsors include Mellady Direct Marketing, the City of Santa Clarita, Poole & Shaffery, LLP, L/B/W Insurance & Financial Services Inc., SCVTV and KHTS.
